First Walker Shoes | A Review From The Baby Vine

I have a family of late walkers. I still remember the questions I got about Cassie (my eldest). She was 16 months before she took her first step, and people expressed so much concern over her lack of walking. It was suggested we take her to a physio to see if there was a reason. And there was! She was just slow off the mark, just like all the other milestones baby’s meet, she did it in her own time.

Learning To Walk

My second child Vivi, was a little bit faster at 15 months and Elliot is now 10 months old and I don’t see him taking off anytime soon – and that’s ok. The biggest trouble I had when Cassie first started walking was finding the right shoes for her. I remember being so excited that she was finally off, I put her straight into runners! Daycare had to take me aside at the end of the day to gently tell me that she had been falling all day in them. They were too clunky for her.

Benefits Of Bare Feet

Here’s what I have learnt since: baby’s best learnt to walk on the soles of their bare feet. It is better for them in terms of finding their balance. They are able to feel the ground and the way their feet shapes along it, which helps keep them steady. Of course, down the track you can introduce shoes: many people start with pre walkers (soft soles to encourage this bare foot feeling) and then into proper shoes.

First Walker Shoes

I have recently come across the perfect shoes for little kids learning to walk and beyond. The Ggomoosin and Komuello shoes are super cute, so easy to put on, and so comfy for little kids.

The lightweight shoes are breathable, machine washable (hooray!) and perfect whether your baby is crawling (like Elliot) or running around.

I don’t know about you, but Elliot LOVES to pull off any shoes I out on him – and socks too. We are constantly losing them and often come home with one pair.  The upper knit of these shoes offers the comfort of a sock with elasticity to keep them on. Then the soles are made from non-toxic, BPA free, recyclable, 100% TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) rubber material (often used in baby teething toys rubber. This makes them nice and flexible for new walkers to get around it, without the tripping over!

Top Features:

Here are just some of the great features of these fabulous first walker shoes:

  • Easy to get on and off: you simply slip them on like and sock and take them off the same way. No fiddling with baby laces or velcro, no trying to fit scrunched up little toes into shoes.
  • Natural: their soles are created from non-toxic, BPA free, recyclable, 100% TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) rubber material (often used in baby teething toys).
  • Slip-resistant: the beehive patterned TPE natural rubber sole is perfect for all surfaces.
  • Extra comfort: the Komuello shoes have a patented unique ‘Air Pocket’ between the sock layer and sole provides extra cushion and prevents sweaty baby feet for superior comfort and breathability.
  • Ultra-light: they weigh only 28g making it so easy for little ones to run around with them on.
  • Washable: hand wash or machine washable.

Why We Love Them

Elliot is still in the crawling stage – commando crawling to be exact, so I was after first walker shoes he could wear to protect those toes as he slide himself along the ground. I love that these shoes can be worn while he is crawling, and then once he starts to walk. They grow with him through the stages.

Plus babies are dirty – the ground is dirty! Being machine washable is a huge benefit of these shoes. Especially since Elliot loves to find his feet and pop them in his mouth.

The shoes also come in a huge variety of fun designs, with animals, bows, canvas style and so much more. You can buy a whole wardrobe of them to mix and match with outfits and never get bored.

The Right Fit

Navigating those early walking days is always tricky, you want to make sure your little one’s feet are protected when you are out and about, without making it hard for them to get around.

Remember that every baby is different, they all crawl, walk, talk, etc at different times. But you can make these transitions easier with the right shoes to encourage their walking! If you haven’t already, I highly recommend checking out Ggomoosin.
